Puducherry, May 20 : As per the advice of Central government, Food Corporation of India (FCI) would procure paddy directly from the farmers in the Union Territory from Wednesday till May 31, Agriculture Minister R Kamalakannan said on Wednesday. In a release here, the Minister said the paddy would be procured at the Regulatory Markets at Thattanchavady, Madagadippet, Kanniyakoil and Karayambathur in Puducherry region and at the modern rice mill in Karaikal region.
Paddy harvested during the 2020 season would be procured, the Minister said, adding that the amount for the paddy will be remitted into the bank account of the farmers within two days of the procurement as per the price fixed for the two varieties of paddy. The farmers bringing paddy will have to produce the copy of the front page of their bank pass book, Aadhaar card and a certificate from an agricultural officer stating that the paddy is harvested in the 2020 season, Mr Kamalakannan said.
