Puducherry, May 17 : No new COVID-19 cases were reported in the union territory on Sunday with the total number of active cases resting at 13, Director Medical Services(DMS) Dr Mohan Kumar said. Talking to the media, Dr Kumar said that of the active cases, three of the five patients from Tamil Nadu are currently being treated at JIPMER hospital. Of the two cases in the Karaikal region, one tested negative and is waiting for the second test. As many as 5,484 tests were conducted in the union territory so far of which 5,320 were negative and the result of the rest is awaited.
Dr Mohan Kumar said as many as 1,168 migrant workers were sent back to their native places of UP and Bihar by a special train from here this morning. "They were screened before being allowed to board the train and all were found healthy," he added. Stating that a large crowd was witnessed in front of the mutton and fish stalls here on Sunday, Dr Kumar regretted that the people are ignoring the social distancing they maintained throughout the week.
