Puducherry, May 6 : Lt.Governor Kiran Bedi on Wednesday said in view of the scale of organized crime leading to heavy wrongful loss of Revenue to the state exchequer following the sale of liquor in black market during the lockdown period, the CBI has registered a case and taken up the investigation.
In a Whats app posting, the Lt.Governor said as many as 236 cases were registered by the police department under the Excise Act leading to the suspension of 100 defaulting liquor licences by the Excise department. Few excise and police officials were also arrested, suspended and transferred out, besides a senior Deputy Excise Commissioner was replaced, Ms Bedi added.
On a complaint from AIADMK legislator A Anbazhagan during the lockdown period, enormous amount of information about the organized crime were received, she said and urged the people to pass on information of any such activities directly to the CBI office in Puducherry or to the grievance officer Mr Bhaskaran at the Raj Nivas.
