Puducherry, May 5 : Federation for peoples’ Rights here on Tuesday urged Chief Minister V Narayanasamy to withdraw the lockdown relaxation announced here. In a statement, Federation Secretary G Sugumaran said, though Puducherry managed to contain the spread of Coronavirus pandemic to some extent it is not fully contained.
The virus is spreading fast in areas like Chennai, Cuddalore and Villippuram in Tamil Nadu, he said, adding that Puducherry could not fully prevent the entry of people from these areas into the Union territory. An apprehension is there that the virus might have spread to many on Monday itself when people thronged in markets and shops without any safety measures like masks, sanitizers or adopting social distancing following the relaxation of lockdown, Mr Sugumaran said .
Adequate testing facility is not available in Puducherry and as such, the permission to open all shops is a wrong decision when the Central government had extended the lockdown till May 17. The life of the people is more important than the welfare of the traders, he said and demanded that the relaxation be withdrawn forthwith. (UNI)
