Puducherry, May 4 : Health Minister Malladi Krishna Rao on Monday appealed to the people to be very careful and cooperate with the government so that the excellent work done by various departments of the territorial administration in the past 40 days will not go in vain. Talking to news persons, Mr Rao said relaxation of lockdown does not mean that the people could relax and wander on the roads without any purpose. He said after the relaxation, Puducherry got a big challenge as the Union Territory is sharing borders with Kerala, Andhra Pradesh and Tamil Nadu.
The Villppuram and Cuddalore districts of Tamil Nadu close to Puducherry is in red zone. In Villippuram district, 86 Coronavirus positive cases had been reported since the last 40 days. However, on Sunday alone, 49 positive cases were reported there. In Cuddalore district, 107 COVID-19 positive cases were reported yesterday alone. He said he had noticed this morning that several people from the districts of Tamil Nadu coming to Puducherry and people from here going to that districts.
This is a serious threat to Puducherry, he said, adding that this would be apprised to the Chief Minister at a meeting this evening. Mr Rao said Puducherry could not succeed in containing the spread of COVID-19 without the support of the people. Presently only three Coronavirus positive patients are undergoing treatment in the hospitals in UT of Puducherry (two in Puducherry region and one in Mahe). Apart from this, three persons infected with COVID-19 are being treated at Jipmer here. As long as the patients tested positive are being treated at Jipmer, Puducherry could not move to the green zone from the orange zone, the Minister said. (UNI)
