Puducherry bans pillion ride

In an extreme case of social distancing, the Puducherry Government on Friday banned motorcyclists from taking another passenger in their pillion. It also said only two can travel in a car. It said all those coming out to buy essentials should wear masks.

These regulations will be strictly enforced, it warned.

Like Tamil Nadu, Puducherry has stopped all forms of public transport since the imposition of a nationwide lockdown from the last week of March.

The Union Territory has reported reported just 10 Coronavirus cases, including one in Mahe in Kerala. Most patients have been from Ariyankuppam in the town, all returnees from the Tablighi event in New Delhi. The area has already been sealed and declared hot spots.
