Three AIADMK members of the Puducherry Assembly on Thursday staged a dharna inside theTerritorial Assembly complex demanding distribution of free rice and other relief ration items to all card holders and not restrict them only to the poor.
The three legislators, wearing a face masks and carrying a placard that ration items should be given to even yellow card holders, that is those above poverty line.
Leader of the group K Anbazhagan told reporters that the Centre had given 9,000 tonnes of rice and wheat for distribution to the people in the Union Territory so that each ration holder could get five kg of rice or what free of cost.
Anbazhgan however said contrary to the assurance given by Congress Chief Minister V Narayanaswamy, ration items had been distributed only in five Assembly segments out of the total of 30. He charged that Narayanaswamy was blaming Lt Governor Kiran Bedi for the delay in distribution of relief, saying she was sitting on the files.
This was not the time to play politics, he charged and said Puducherry should follow the example of the AIADMK Government in Tamil Nadu which had given free ration to all card holders as well as migrant workers.
