Puducherry, Mar 18 : AIADMK legislature party leader A Anbazhagan on Wednesday alleged that the government is adopting a sluggish attitude towards prevention of COVID-19 in the Union Territory.
Talking to news persons here, Mr Anbazhagan said when the Tamil Nadu government is taking all efforts to prevent the virus, Chief Minister V Narayanasamy had failed to take any proper steps in this direction. No medical camps were set up in border points to Puducherry and the buses and cars entering here are not being sanitized, he said, adding that adequate equipment including thermometers are not available with the government.
There is no ventilator facility at the government general hospital and recently a patient Sahadevan was advised to go to a private hospital when he developed breathing difficulty, the AIADMK leader pointed out. Bars and arrack shops are functioning and a large number of people are gathering there. But the government did not issue orders to close down them, he said.
At times of disasters, District Collector have full powers. However, Puducherry Collector is implementing what the Chief Minister says, he said. Pointing out that section 144 was clamped in 20 cities in the country, MrAnbazahgan suggested that this could be implemented in Puducherry also by providing two days time for the people to procure essential commodities. He also ridiculed the remarks of a Minister that COVID-19 will not affect if one drank liquor and said he forgot the responsibility of his post. (UNI)
