LG keen to close down AFT Mill: CM

Puducherry, Jan 23: Even as the issue of the Anglo-French Textile (AFT) Mill is pending with the Central government, Lt.Governor Kiran Bedi with her high handedness directed to close down the mill by taking the power of President in her hands, Chief Minister V Narayanasamy alleged on Thursday.

Speaking at the birth anniversary celebrations of Netaji Subhash Chandra Bose at the PCC office here, the Chief Minister said his Cabinet Colleagues and he organized an agitation in front of the Raj Nivas with the main demand to grant VRS to AFT mill workers. During the discussion thereafter, the Lt Governor had agreed to accept the recommendations of the committee on the issue and when the file for setting up the committee was sent to her, she again suggested the closure of AFT Mill, Mr Narayanasamy claimed and said with difference of opinion emerged, the matter was referred to the Centre.

The Union Government enquired the desire of the workers and they preferred VRS. However,the Lt.Governor pressurized the officials to close down the mill, he alleged and asked whether Ms Bedi was functioning against the interest of workers. He said Prime Minister Narendra Modi was not taking the issues, concerning Puducherry seriously and added that the workers will agitate against the elected government and not against the Lt Governor.
