Puducherry, Oct 30 : Puducherry chief judicial magistrate Damodaran on Wednesday convicted and sentenced 49 people to two years Rigorous Imprisonment and acquitted 35 others in the case pertaining to the ransacking of Yanam police station in connection with the industrial violence which occurred in that region of the union territory in 2012.
Notably, industrial violence broke out in the Regancy Ceramics in Yanam in 2012 when the trade union leader Surendra Mohan died in suspicious circumstance while being taken by the police for interrogation. Following the violence, riots broke out in the factory and the manager Chandrasekhar was killed.
Following allegations that the Yanam police included fake accused in the case, it was handed over to the CBI. The CBI has filed five different cases and is currently investigating. Meanwhile, justice Damodaran who is also the special judge here pronounced the judgement for the Yanam police station ransacking case. Four other cases in connection with the industrial violence are still pending. (UNI)
