Puducherry, Oct 18 : Four members of a family allegedly committed suicide in their house at Kuyilappalayam, near Auroville near here.
The decomposed bodies of Sundaramurthy(40), his wife Maheswari(35) and daughters Krithika(17) and Samiksha(13) were found inside their locked house on Friday. According to police, Sundaramurthy was working in a bakery, while his wife was working at Auroville.
He was running a Deepavali chit and as the festival was nearing, he has to disburse Rs 5 lakh to the members of the chit. But, he already was in a debt of Rs 5 lakh and unable to face the situation, he along with his family committed suicide. It is suspected that they committed suicide on Monday last as the bodies were in a decomposed state. There was no word also about them from Monday.
As foul smell emanated from the house, neighbours informed the police who broke open the door and found the bodies. While, Sundaramurthy committed suicide by hanging, the other three consumed poison, Police said. Auroville police registered a case, seized the bodies and sent them to the Pondicherry Institute of Medical Sciences (PIMS) here for post-mortem. (UNI)
