Puducherry, Oct 4 : Lt.Governor Kiran Bedi on Friday called upon all sections of the people to contribute their mite to improve the water table in the Union Territory.
Responding to an article appeared in a section of the media here stating that the ground water table in Puducherry is depleting and the people digging borewells deeper and deeper, the Lt.Governor said that all people have to play a role for water harvesting.
Roof top gradient and run off the surface water conservation must be adhered to, She said, adding that all channels and ponds be cleaned up to receive the clean rain water in the ensuing North East Monsoon. All should take a possible measure individually and collectively to improve the water table in the place they live, the Lt Governor asserted.
Ms Bedi also said that the political leadership must be seriously worried about the water table situation and work in their constituencies in all possible ways by not depending on money investment alone but on human endeavour. They should involve the people also or else they will not forget and forgive them and punish them by not voting for them, she added.
Similarly, the government, professional leadership and corporate leadership should lead and change and improve the water table, Ms Bedi said. (UNI)
