Puducherry,Oct 4 : With a clear picture of a triangular contest emerged for the October 21 by-election to the Kamaraj Nagar Assembly constituency after the withdrawal of nomination papers on Thursday, political parties commenced their campaign on Friday.
Though, nine candidates were there in the fray, the contest will mainly be between the Congress Candidate John Kumar and N R Congress candidate Bhuvana alias Bhuvaneswaran.
The third candidate to be in reckon is Vetrichelvan of the Makkal Munnetra Congress floated by former Congress leader P Kannan last week, who was contesting as an independent as decided by the Election Commission of India.
Commencing the electioneering at Saram here along with alliance party leaders and Lok Sabha Member V Vaithilingam who held the seat earlier, Chief Minister V Narayanasamy claimed that a massive support was there for John Kumar.
He alleged that as the Lt Governor blocked the development of the Union Territory in several ways, people felt the Secular Progressive Alliance alone could protect their interests and would support the Congress candidate, he added. (UNI)
