Puducherry, Sep 23 : The Puducherry unit of the Makkal Neethi Maiam (MNM) will not contest the October 21 by-election for the Kamaraj Nagar assembly constituency, Party state president Dr M A S Subramanian said on Monday.

Mr Subramanian in a statement said that the target of MNM was to contest the 2021 assembly elections and capture power and the party does not want to deviate from its target. Moreover, the candidate elected from Kamaraj Nagar constituency could do nothing to remove the 'anti-people' government here.

He said the Congress government’s term is for one more year only and this bypoll was an unwarranted one which was forced on the people by the ruling side. The tax money of the people will be wasted because of this bypoll and it will act as a hindrance to the implementation of the schemes announced in the recent budget, thus blocking the development of the union territory, Mr Subramanian said.(UNI)
