Ramanujam committee urges Pondy CM to celebrate birth centenary of late revolutionary

Puducherry, Sep 22: DMK (South) convener R Siva MLA along with office bearers of the birth centenary celebration committee of freedom fighter late Ramanujam called on Chief Minister V Narayanasamy on Sunday and urged him to celebrate his birth centenary on behalf of the government.

According to a DMK statement here, they also urged the chief minister to erect a life size statue of Ramanujam here and name the Ariyankuppam bridge after him.

Ramanujam actively participated in the liberation struggle to liberate Puducherry from French colonialism along with V Subbaiah and also went to jail leading the anti-merger agitation when the late prime minister Moraraji Desai tried to merge Puducherry with Tamil Nadu, the statement said. (UNI)
