Puducherry, Sep 21: The indefinite strike by the workers of the Puducherry Road Transport Corporation (PRTC) was called off on the fifth day on Saturday.
According to official sources, the strike was called off following a discussion held between PRTC management and representatives of the workers in which an amicable settlement was reached.
It may be noted that the workers were on an indefinite strike from September 17 demanding the immediate disbursement of their pending three months salary besides the bonus for the year 2018 and the regularization of the services of contract workers.
The Corporation on Friday remitted three months salary along with bonus for 2018 in the bank account of the workers.
Even then, the workers refused to resume work and announced that their strike will continue till the contract workers were regularized.
The management announced that the contract workers could not be regularized straightaway and they have to be converted to daily rated workers and then only their service be regularized.
In today’s discussion, the management assured to take a decision on the issue in a month, following which the strike was called off. (UNI)
