Puducherry, Sep 3 : Chief Minister V Narayanasamy on Tuesday urged the members of the territorial assembly not to give any political colour to Ayushman Bharat Scheme.
Replying to a question, the Chief Minister said that the scheme was introduced here on August 31 this year and as many as 2.68 lakh members from 1.03 lakh families were included as the beneficiaries.
He said though the Central government introduced the scheme in 2018, the delay in implementing the same was due to not entering an agreement with the centre and later the Lok Sabha election. Mr Narayanasamy said that there was a demand that all the people in Puducherry be included in the scheme and steps for the same was being taken.
Congress member Theepanjan then asked whether it is a BJP scheme or a government scheme. Government whip Anantharaman pointed out that BJP is enrolling members to the party citing the scheme.
The Chief Minister then said this is a central government and state government scheme for which the central government will contribute 60 percent of the funds and state government 40 percent. Members need not give any political colour to the scheme, he added.
Later, Minister for Health Malladi Krishna Rao told the house that he met Union Health Minister Dr Harsh Vardhan, Union Health Secretary and Deputy Secretary on Sunday last and urged them to cover all the people in Puducherry under the scheme.
A sum of Rs 434 is required for each individual and as such Rs.13.12 crore is required, Mr Rao said, adding that the central government was requested to provide the 60 percent of the required funds and the rest will be managed by the government. (UNI)
