Puducherry, Aug 9 : The Yanam region of the Union Territory of Puducherry was flooded due to continuous rain for the past several days.
According to reports reaching here, several areas of Yanam were flooded and rain water intruded into several houses. A house was collapsed on Friday morning.
Yanam legislator and Puducherry Health Minister Malladi Krishna Rao urged Chief Minister V Narayanasamy to take up measures for flood relief in the region. Following his request, the Chief Minister deputed Puducherry District Collector T Arun to Yanam who is supervising relief operations.
The Mahe region of the Union Territory is also under the threat of flood following heavy rainfall.
Situated in between the Kozhikode and Kannur districts of Kerala which are under red alert and where rain continued unabated, Mahe also is experiencing heavy rainfall for the last few days.
Several parts of Mahe are flooded and fire service personnel rescued about 50 persons from Pandakkal area who were trapped in flood. The region has been without power for the last two days and all schools in the region remained closed for the second day today. (UNI)
