Puducherry, June 10: Former Puducherry chief minister and former state DMK convenor R V Janakiraman died in the early hours of Monday after a prolonged illness.
Hre breathed last at 3 am in a private hospital here. He was 78 and survived by his two wives and five children. Of the five children (4 boys and 1 girl), two boys died due to illness earlier.
Elected from the Nellithoppe assembly constituency here on the DMK ticket, Janakiraman served as the Puducherry chief minister from May 26-1996 to March 18,2000.
His body will be kept at his Ambur saalai residence till 7 am tomorrow for public homage and will be taken to Alathur, his home town near Tindivanam in Villupuram district of Tamil Nadu, for funeral at 10 am tomorrow. (UNI)
