Puducherry, May 29 : The government has granted a two-year age relaxation for recruitment of police constables in the Union Territory.
Chief Minister V Narayanasamy in a release on Wednesday said that the recruitment to fill up 390 vacant posts of police constables was advertised in August 2018 with the age eligibility from 18 to 22.
However, there was a demand to enhance the age eligibility by two years --that is--to 24 from 22 from different quarters.
He also pointed out that this was one of the reason for the UPA leaders dharna in front of the Raj Nivas.
The Central government also apprised the Lt.governor that two years age relaxation could be given. However, the implementation of the same was delayed and now the way to implement the same was cleared after the Madurai Bench Madras High Court Order, he added.
Hence, the general category candidates who complete 24 years as on 22-9-2018 could apply for the post.
Similarly, the other category candidates could also avail two years age relaxation to their prescribed age limit and apply, Narayanasamy said. The time to apply for the post is also being extended by one month, the Chief Minister said.
