Puducherry, Apr 5 : Communist Party of India (Marxist) in Mahe has decided to support actor-turned Politician Kamal Haasan’s Makkal Needhi Maiam (MNM) candidate Dr M A S Subramanian in the April 18 Lok Sabha Election.
It may be noted that when the CPI-M is opposing the Congress in Kerala, where Mahe region lies, it is in company with the Congress in Puducherry. The CPI-M volunteers in Mahe were in confusion how to vote for the Congress when the party is opposing the Congress in Vadakara and Kannur Lok Sabha constituencies on either sides of Mahe. Finally, they have taken a decision to vote for MNM candidate Dr.Subramanian in Mahe alone.
According to sources from Mahe, the CPI-M local committee secretary K P Sunil Kumar has announced that the area committee secretary has taken a decision to support MNM in the Lok Sabha from Pudhucherry constituency. However, the party will support Congress in Puducherry ,Karaikal and Yanam.
Puducherry Lok Sabha consits of four Lok Sabha disconnected enclaves-Karaikal, Pondicherry, Mahe and Yanam. The first two are in Tamil Nadu while the rest are in Kerala and Andhra Pradesh. However, Dr. Subramanian may not get the entire CPI (M) votes from Mahe since, several cadres are with a soft corner to the congress.
The CPI-M is having a considerable vote bank here and it may be noted that in the last assembly election, the CPI-M sponsored independent candidate Prof Ramachandran won the seat defeating Congress Candidate E Valsaraj. (UNI)
