Puducherry,Dec 7 : The case pertaining to the death of a prisoner here was transferred to the CB-CID.
It may be noted that plumber Jayamurthy (22) of Reddichavady near here was picked up by the Bahour police in a motor cycle theft case and was allegedly beaten up in the police station.
After two days, he was produced before a local court and remanded. However, Jayamurthy fell ill on the second day of his lodging in the prison and died on the next day at the Government General Hospital.
The relatives of Jyamurthy raised a banner of revolt stating that he died of the torture by Bahour police following which the Sub-Inspector and Assistant Sub-Inspector of Bahour police station were suspended.
The Chief Minister had also ordered a magisterial probe which is now on and provided a financial assistance of Rs 3 lakh to the family of Jayamurthy.
Meanwhile, DGP Sundari Nanda issued orders of transferring the case to the CB-CID on Thursday night and the CB-CID police commenced their investigation today. (UNI)
