All India Anna DMK legislator of the Puducherry Territorial Assembly K Anbazhagan has written to the Speaker V Vaithialingam, raising a privilege issue against Lt Governor Kiran Bedi for cutting short his speech at a Gandhi Jayanthi function by getting the microphone switched off.
The legislator said that at the function which was organized to declare the Union Territory Open Defection Free zone, he congratulated Bedi for her efforts, but stressed that the Government should ensure basic sanitation facilities before declaring the ODF.
Bedi in a tweet said the function was to give away awards to those who had done good work in making the UT open defecation free zone, and not to play politics over the issue. Anbazhagan was allowed to speak first as he was the local legislator, but he went on and on, cutting into others’ time despite her sending two slips to him to cut it short. She said she asked the organisers to switch off the mike only after he continued even after she with folded hands pleaded with others, including Ministers, to speak. It was only then she asked him to leave the stage, Bedi said.
This the second time that a privilege issue is sought to be raised against Bedi. In August, 15 Congress and two DMK legislators wrote to the Speaker after she commented that” law makers should not be law breakers” when he refused to allow three nominated BJP MLAs to attend the House despite an interim court order.
