Bhubaneswar, Jun 10 : Covid-19 positive cases in Odisha surged to 3250 today with the detection of 110 fresh cases from 17 districts in the state during the last 24 hours. While 97 covid cases were detected from the quarantine centres, 13 cases contracted the infection locally. Jagatsinghpur district in coastal Odisha reported maximum 33 positive cases, taking the total tally in the district to cross 100, Health and Family Welfare department sources here said.
While Jagatsinghpur reported 130 covid-19 cases so far, as many as 11 districts in the state, too, crossed the hundred mark. Cuttack, Khordha and Gajapati districts reported 20, 14 and 11 covid cases, respectively, today while the remaining 13 districts reported single digit covid cases. Official sources said out of 1,85,410 samples tested so far, 3250 had been found coronavirus positive, of which 2133 had already been cured and 1106 active cases were being treated in the covid hospitals. At least eight doctors, including four from the AIIMS, Bhubaneswar, so far tested positive in the state.
Similarly, among the local cases, sarpanches, teachers, para medical staff engaged in the quarantine centres had been infected with covid-19. The covid positive cases also included 61 jawans from NDRF and ODRAF teams and 12 from the state Fire Services who were engaged in the rescue operation in the severe cyclonic storm Amphan battered West Bengal. The covid cases in Odisha had been rising over the past ten days with the arrival of over 5 lakh Odia returnees from various states. Since May 31, except two days, June 4 and June 7, in all other days, more than hundred covid cases were reported. The total covid cases in these 11 days went up to 1428, almost 44 per cent of the total cases reported so far in the state.
During 11 days as many as 1007 (except on June 10) covid patients were cured and discharged from hospitals. Official sources said out of the total covid-19 cases in the state , the male accounted for 86 per cent and the female 14 per cent. Over 71 per cent cases of Covid-19 were in the age group of 15 to 40 while 23 percent were in the age group of 41-60 years. Over 2.9 per cent covid cases were found in the age group of above 61 years. Ganjam district in South Odisha continued to be in the top of the district list with 694 positive cases followed by Jajpur (326), Khordha (290), Cuttack (209), Balsore (197) and Kendrapara (170). The other districts which reported more than hundred covid cases were Jagatsinghpur (130), Bolangir(124), Sundargarh (118) and Puri (115).
The state government, apprehending more covid cases in the worst-hit eleven districts, had declared complete shut down for two days on Saturday and Sunday every week in June to minimize and contain the spread of coronavirus. Meanwhile, the Jagannath Temple administration launched a five day mega health camp to administer homeopathic immunity booster drugs to near about 2200 temple servitors associated with the Car festival of Lord Jagannath to prevent them from getting infected with novel coronavirus. The camp which commenced yesterday, will also provide the drug to the family members of the servitors as a preventive measure. Dr. Kamalakanta Prusty of the Regional Research Institute of Homeopathy told media persons that "Arsenic album-30", tested and proven as an effective drug for treating viral fevers and other such diseases, was given to the servitors to protect them from coronavirus infection.
