Bhubaneswar, Jun 9 : Covid positive cases in Odisha crossed 3000 today with 146 more detected during the last 24 hours. Health and Family Welfare Department sources here said 146 people were tested positive, 127 of them from the quarantine centres and the rest 19 are local cases. With 146 cases, the covid positive cases in the state soared to 3140. As many as 1993 covid patients have already been recovered and 1136 active cases are being treated in various covid hospitals.

In another development, 50 NDRF jawans of 3rd Battalion based at Mundali in Odisha’s Cuttack district have tested covid positive. Similarly, 12 Odisha Fire brigade personnel have also tested covid positive during the last 24 hours. Over 200 NDRF jawans and 372 Odisha Fire brigade personnel were pressed into the relief and rescue operation in the severe cyclonic storm Amphan hit areas of Kolkata and Howarh. These jawans have recently returned to the state after completing the restoration work and were put in quarantine. NDRF DG S N Pradhan said the jawans after their return from West Bengal were put in quarantine as a matter of routine observed in the NDRF camp.

He said all the Jawans have shown asymptomatic symptoms of coronavirus.When one Jawan tested positive , the routine testings were carried out and 49 more jawans were tested positive. Mr.Pradhan said all the 200 odd NDRF jawans who were deployed in the cyclone Amphan ravaged West Bengal were tested for the coronavirus. He said already 35 jawans have been released from the quarantine centres. Meanwhile, odisha DG ( Fire Services) Satyajit Mohanty taking to the tweeter said, “12 of our fearless fire fighters @OdishaFS_HGs_CD who returned from #Kolkata with laurels after #CycloneAmphan restoration tasks tested +ve for Covid-19. The State government has ensured the best possible medical care. Wish the brave hearts fast recovery.”

Sources said 372 Fire personnel from the state had been deployed in West Bengal for restoration operation and on their return, they were put in institutional quarantine and the state government decided to bear the expenses of their accommodation, food and all treatment cost. Official sources said out of 146 tested positive during the last 24 hours,maximum 19 have reported from Khordha district,followed by Ganjam( 18),Jagatsinghpur(8) Seven each from Sundargarh and Balasore and Deogarh ( 5). Sources said 61 jawans from NDRF and ODRAF who have returned from West Bengal after Amphan duty tested covid positive. Meanwhile, Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik taking to the Tweeter said ‘ committed to bring home stranded migrant workers from different parts of the country.

More than 600 people have been airlifted from erstwhile J &K,Himachal Pradesh, Manipur, Nagaland and Tripura. Mr Patnaik said air evacuation is being done where rail road travel is not possible. Sources said about 180 people will be airlifted from Andaman Nicobar today. With 99 covid patients recovered from the state yesterday, so far 1993,a little over 63 percent of the total covid positive patients have been cured and discharged from the hospital. The Ganjam district continued to be in the top with 649 covid positive cases,419 of whom of course have been cured and discharged from the hospital. After Ganjam, Jajpur district is placed in the second position with 326 covid +ve cases followed by Khordha (276), Balssore (197), Cuttack (189), Kendrapara (169 ), Bhadrak (151), Sundargarh (118) and Puri (108). Although the covid positive has infected all the 30 districts but the eleven worst affected districts in the state accounted for more than 74 per cent of the total covid cases in the state. (UNI)
