Bhubaneswar, Jun 8 : In a tragic incident a lady trainee pilot and her instructor were killed after the trainer aircraft crashed while landing at Birasala in Odisha’s Dhenkanal district on Monday.
The deceased lady trainee pilot has been identified as Anis Fatima while the instructor Sanjeeb Kumar Jha.
Soon after the accident both the lady trainee pilot and the instructor were rushed to the nearby Kamakhyanagar hospital where the doctors declared them as brought dead.
The DGCA has ordered an inquiry into the incident. Sources said 60 trainee pilots were undergoing flight training at Government Aviation Training Institute (GATI) at Birasala under Kankadahada police limits in Dhenkanal district.
As many as six aircraft were used by the institute during the training which was suspended due to national lockdown and resumed only on June 1 last. The trainer aircraft sources said the aircraft crashed while landing at the airstrip. The aircraft nosedived and hit the runway from over 100 feet probably due to a technical snag.
However, the exact reason behind the mishap will be ascertained only after the DGCA completed the inquiry. Senior police officials have rushed to the accident site and cordoned off the area. The training has been suspended after the accident. (UNI)
