Bhubaneswar, Jun 8 : Odisha today reported 138 fresh covid positive cases, taking the total affected tally to 2994 with 1894 recoveries. Health and Family Welfare department sources said 138 positive cases were reported during the last 24 hours from as many as 18 districts, the highest 33 being registered in Ganjam district, followed by Cuttack (15), Sundargarh (12), Bhadrak (11), Ten each from Keonjhar and Kandhmal and seven from Puri district.
Of the 138 cases, 125 were reported from the quarantine centres and the rest 13 are local cases. Since June 1, the covid positive cases are rising alarmingly and barring two days on June 4 and June 7, more than hundred positive cases are reported from the state on all the five days. Of the 138 new cases, 125 have been reported from quarantine centres while 13 are local contacts.
Majority of the covid cases are reported from the returnees from various states, according to official figures, so far 5,07.093 Odias have returned to the state from various states. Meanwhile, the normal life which was crippled on Saturday and Sunday in eleven worst coronavirus infected districts due to complete shutdown, returned to normalcy today. The state government, considering the gravity of the covid situation with the arrival of over five lakhs migrant workers, have announced weekend complete shut down on every Saturday and Sunday in June, which the government maintained is very crucial for the state . The Covid 19 has already infected all the 30 districts in the state but nine districts have so far reported more than 100 positive cases.
The nine worst corona hit districts have together reported 2249 Covid cases,over 75 per cent of the total positive cases in the state. The Ganjam district in South Odisha, also the home district of Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik , has registered the highest 631 covid cases followed by Jajpur (325), Khordha (257),Balasore (190 ), Cuttack (187), Kendrapara (167),Bhadrak (151),Bolangir (122), Sundargarh (111) and Puri (108 ). Till mid night of Sunday,1,79,415 samples have been tested and 2994 of them found covid positive.The state has so far reported 1894 recovery cases and 1089 active cases are under treatment in various covid hospitals. The covid death toll has reached 9 (four each from Khordha and Ganjam district, and one from Cuttack ) while two people, one each from Khordha and Balasore have died.(UNI)
