Bhubaneswar, May 27 : Covid positive cases in Odisha surged to 1593 today with 76 fresh positive cases reported from ten districts in the state. At the same time with the recovery of 84 covid patients yesterday, the total recoveries from the deadly virus rose to 733 while 853 active cases are admitted in the Covid hospitals. Official sources said out of the 76 fresh cases reported in the state, 74 were from the quarantine centres and two local cases.
Bolangir district in Western Odisha registered 16 positive cases followed by Khordha and Nayagarh district 13 each, Cuttack (11) and Ganjam (10 ) cases. A majority of the positive cases reported in the state yesterday were the returnees from Gujarat followed by Maharashtra and West Bengal.Ganjam district where over a lakh Odia migrants from Gujarat had returned to the district since May 3 last alone accounted for 23.1 per cent of the total covid cases in the state. Jajpur district with the arrival of West Bengal returnees and also from Surat, remained in second position with 15.2 per cent of total positive cases in the state. As many as five districts such as Ganjam, Jajpur,Balasore, Bhadrak and Khordha have together contributed over 60 per cent of the total positive cases in the state.
The covid 19 has already covered 29 of the total 30 districts in the state . The tribal dominated Rayagada district is the only district in Odisha which has been declared as Covid free district. Official sources said a little over one lakh people in Odisha have completed the quarantine period and discharged from the centres while three lakh people have been observing the quarantine in the temporary Medical centres set up at village and panchayat level under the administrative control of the local Sarpanch.(UNI)
