Bhubaneswar, May 22 : Odisha reported 86 fresh covid cases spread over eleven districts in the state yesterday taking the total tally to 1189 with 393 recoveries, 789 active cases and seven casualty cases. Official sources said out of 86 cases, 80 positive cases were reported from the quarantine centres, one from the containment zone and the rest five local cases. Jajpur district, a hotspot for coronavirus, reported maximum 46 positive cases taking the total covid cases in the district to 255, second highest after Ganjam district in the state.
The coronavirus has already spread to 24 of the total 30 districts and is showing a rising trend with the arrival of large numbers of returnees from the covid infested states like Gujarat, Maharashtra, Andhra Pradesh, Telangana and Karnataka. However, five districts such as Ganjam, Jajpur,Balasore, Bhadrak,Khordha and Cuttack together accounted for a maximum of 930 positive cases,mostly from returnees kept in quarantine centres. The Ganjam district has topped the list with 322 cases followed by Jajpur (255),Balasore(125 and Bhadrak (98 ),Khordha(74) and Cuttack (56) cases. In Jajpur, official sources said out of the 46 positive cases reported yesterday, 37 were West Bengal returnees, two Tamilnadu, one each from Telangana, Haryana and Chhattisgarh and four from United Arab Emirates(UAE). Similarly, eleven positive cases reported from Cuttack district were mostly from the quarantine centres, barring one local case. All the ten positive cases were the returnees from West Bengal, Tamilnadu, Telangana and Gujarat.
Cuttack which was recently declared as Covid free district, suddenly showing a sharp rise in the Covid cases with the arrival of the returnees from the Covid infested states.The district has so far recorded 56 positive cases. With as many as 50 covid patients cured yesterday, the Cobid recovery case has gone up to 393, majority of them have been recovered from Ganjam ( 154) followed by Jajpur ( 63) Khordha(48)and Balasore ( 42 ). Odisha has now as many as 789 active Covid cases under treatment at various Covid hospitals and over 900 people are in hospital isolation. (UNI)
