Kendrapara, May 20 : The fire tender personnel played a good Samaritan role during the cyclonic storm Amphan and rescued a pregnant woman from her house.

The woman delivered a girl child inside the fire service vehicle while she was shifted to Mahakalapada CHC. According to Divisional Forest Officer P.K.Das the fire tender personnel of Mahakalapada on the wee hour of Wednesday received information about the health condition of a 20-year-old pregnant woman Janaki Sethi.

Though her family members contacted ambulance, they failed to get ambulance service as the road was completely blocked due to uprooted trees as cyclonic storm Ambhan wreaked havoc in the area. Two fire service teams rushed to the spot to lend their helping hand to rescue the woman. The fire tender personnel cleared 22 uprooted trees on the road with the help of power saws notwithstanding the strong wind and torrential rain. The lady was rescued from her house, while she was undergoing traumatic pain.

However, on the way to Mahakalapada Community Health Centre, the woman gave birth to a girl child in a fire service vehicle with the assistance of fire tender personnel. The woman and her new born child were later taken to Mahakalapada CHC for treatment and for further medical care. Both the mother and her new born child were fine. The locals praised the fire tender personnel for playing a good Samaritan role and saving two precious lives. (UNI)
