Covid positive cases cross 1000 in Odisha as tally surges 1052 with 74 fresh cases, One more dies

Bhubaneswar, May 20 : Covid positive cases in Odisha crossed 1,000 today as the tally surged to 1,052 after 74 fresh cases reported during the last 24 hours. At the same time, one more Covid patient succumbed in the state taking the total casualty to six. While three of them reported from Khordha district, two were from Ganjam and one from Cuttack district.

According to Health and Family Welfare Department sources, a 70-year male of Khordha district, having history of comorbidity of hypertension, was admitted in AIIMS Emergency yesterday with respiratory distress and passed away the same day. He has tested positive for Covid. Out of 74 fresh cases reported during the last 24 hours, 72 were reported from the quarantine centres and two from local sources. The coronavirus spread to one more district after two positive cases were reported in Malkangiri, taking the total district under the grip of the Covid to 24 in the state.

All the 74 cases were reported from eleven districts. Boudh district alone accounted for the highest number of 28 positive cases followed by Puri (11), Cuttack (9), Khordha (7) and six each in Jajpur and Ganjam district. Ganjam district continued to be in the top of the district wise Covid cases with 313 cases followed by Jajpur (174), Balasore (122), Bhadrak (95), Khordha (71), Puri (44), Kendrapara (40), Cuttack (36), Boudh (33), Jagatsinghpur (28) and Sundargarh (27). Sources said almost all the positive cases are being reported from the Odia migrants returnees from Gujarat, West Bengal, Maharashtra, Tamil Nadu, Andhra Pradesh and Karnataka. Out of 100,302 samples tested so far in the state, 1,052 were tested positive of whom 307 have been recovered and discharged from the hospital. As many as 739 active cases are under treatment at various Covid hospitals and six deaths have been reported so far in the state while 866 people are in hospital isolation. (UNI)
