Covid 19 claims two more lives in Odisha, toll rises to 5 with 828 positive cases

Bhubaneswar, May 17 : Covid 19 has claimed two more lives in Odisha taking the total casualty to 5 while the total coronavirus cases went up to 828 with the report of 91 fresh positive cases during the last 24 hours. Official sources said two more Surat returnees from Ganjam succumbed to the coronavirus. A 38 year old Surat returnee and another 45 year also from Surat, who were tested positive, succumbed to the disease.

Earlier, Ganjam district, considered as hotspot for Covid 19, has reported one death while two deaths were reported from the state capital Bhubaneswar State Health and Family Welfare Department sources said during the last 24 hours, Fresh 91 covid positive cases were reported from eleven districts in the state. The Covid spread to 22 districts in the state with the report of one positive case in Sambalpur district in Western Odisha, a new district is under the grip of the virus, Out of the 91 new COVID-19 positive cases, Bhadrak district reported a maximum 28 cases, followed by Balasore (17) Ganjam (15), Cuttack (12), Puri (7) Keonjhar (4), Khurda ( 3) Bolangir (2 ) and one each in Kendrapara ,Sundargarh and and Sambalpur district districts Official sources said 30 coronavirus patients were cured and discharged from the hospital yesterday taking the total recoveries in the state to 196.

Out of 30 covid positive persons recovered yesterday 28 are from Ganjam and one each from Balasore and Cuttack. Official sources claimed that out of the 91 positive cases, 87 were from the quarantine centres and the rest four cases are local. They included a sarpanch, one contact person with a positive case and two others. (UNI)
