Bhubaneswar, May 11 : Odisha recorded 14 new Covid-19 cases on Monday from three districts, all reported from the quarantine centres, taking the total tally to 391 in the state. Official sources said while 12 cases were reported from Ganjam, a hot spot for coronavirus now, one each was reported from Sundargarh and Kendrapara districts.
All the 14 cases were reported from the quarantine centres and 13 of them are Surat returnees. With 12 more cases, the Ganjam district, already declared as Red Zone, has so far reported 137 positive cases, one of which had succumbed to the disease on Sunday. Sundargarh and Kendrapara reported 14 and 9 positive cases respectively.
The Ganjam district with the arrival of over 40,000 returnees, mostly from Gujarat, has the highest number of coronavirus cases witnessing a sharp rise of covid cases in the past one week, mostly from the Surat returnees, who continue to arrive in the district in thousands everyday.
Meanwhile, the Titlagarh administration in Western Odisha, today extended the curfew in the town today from 12 PM to midnight in view of the arrival of the Shramik Special train carrying over 1200 stranded Odia migrants. On Sunday, one Shramik Special with over 1200 migrants, arrived in the town from Maharashtra. The returnees were later sent to 28 districts by bus from where they were further sent to their respective panchayat to stay in institutional quarantine for 21 days.
Railway sources said five more trains are scheduled to arrive in Odisha today carrying over 6000 migrant workers stranded in various states. According to the State Health department, a total of 3698 RT-PCR tests have been conducted in Odisha in the last 24 hours. The total covid positive vases is Odisha now stood at 391,of whom as many as 68 persons have been cured and discharged from the hospital and 320 active cases are under treatment in various covid hospitals.
