Bhubaneswar, May 1: Perturbed over the rising cases of coronavirus among West Bengal returnees, the Odisha government today asked all those who returned from the neighbouring state to opt for covid test. All those who have recently returned from West Bengal should contact the Block Development Officer, Tahasidar and Sarpanch of the area for covid test,an official release issued here today said. The government's direction came in the wake of rising covid cases in the state, being attributed to the West Bengal returnees, mostly detected in Bhadrak, Balasore and Jajpur districts. As many as 17 positive cases were reported yesterday from Jajpur district alone and all the cases were attributed to West Bengal returnees and their contacts.
The Jajpur district has now 35 active Covid positive cases, the highest in the state, followed by Balasore (20) and Bhubaneswar (19). Sources said thousands of people have recently returned to Bhadrak, Jajpur and Balasore districts from West Bengal and these three districts together reported 65 positive cases,majority of whom were West Bengal returnees. This morning one more person in Balasore tested Covid positive taking the total count in the district to 20. Official sources said the person tested positive was also a returnee from West Bengal.(UNI)
