Bhubaneswar, Apr 27: Justice Mohammad Rafiq was today sworn in as the 31st Chief Justice of Odisha High Court.
Odisha Governor Prof Ganeshi Lal administered the oath of office to Justice Rafiq Mohammad at a swearing in ceremony organised inside the Lok Seva Bhawan here maintaining Social distancing norms.
Several judges of Odisha High court, State Chief Secretary A k Tripathy, Odisha DGP Abhay, Advocate General Ashok Parija were among a host of dignitaries present at the swearing in ceremony.
The Chief justice post was lying vacant after the superannuation of Justice K S Jhaveri sine January 5 last and the Justice Sanju Panda had been functioning as the Acting Chief Justice since then.
President Ramnath Kovind had appointed Justice Mohammad Rafiq as the Chief Justice of Odisha High Court on April 23 last as per the recommendation of the Supreme Court Collegium.
Prior to it Justice Mohammad Rafiq was the Chief Justice of Meghalaya High Court. With this the number of judges in Orissa High Court rose to 17 including the Chief Justice.(UNI)
