Bhubaneswar, Aug 01: Odisha Assembly witnessed ruckus over BJP MLA Bishnu Sethy’s remark on Muslim women as Opposition Congress and treasury bench forced Speaker S N Patro to adjourn the house five times and finally for the day.Amidst uproarious scenes, the Assembly adopted the first supplementary statement of Expenditure for recoupment of advance from Odisha Contingency fund and tabled some papers before the Speaker adjourned the house for the day at 1700 hours.The trouble started during the zero-hours when raising the Triple talaq issue BJP Deputy leader in the house Bishnu Sethi said the Triple Talaq system does not exist in Pakistan, Bangladesh and 38 other countries. It has also no mention in their religious Koran.

Mr Sethy said the Muslim women divorced through triple talaq are forced to take up prostitution in the red light area of West Bengal and other neighbouring states.
His statement triggered furore in the house as the Congress and the BJD members vociferously reacted to the remark. The Congress members condemning the statement trooped into the well of the house and disrupted the business demanding the uncharitable remark be expunged.The Congress members taking strong exception to Mr Sethy's remark against the Muslim women rushed to the well of the house and shouted slogan disrupting the business of the house.,

Dubbing the remark of the BJP MLA as an insult to the Muslim community, they urged the Speaker to expunge it.Speaker S N Patro tried to pacify the situation and ruled that he would examine the remark of the BJP MLA but failed to bring the house into order.
Finding no other solution, the Speaker adjourned the house at 1208 hours till 1500 hours. The house witnessed uproarious scene when it met at 1500 hours to take up the business as the Congress members continued their protest.

The Speaker was again forced to adjourn the house at 1508 hours to 1538 hours. The house was again adjourned at 1538 hours to 1608 hours and subsequently thrice for 45 minutes before the Speaker adjourned it for the day at 1700 hours.However, amidst slogan shouting by the Opposition Congress members, the voting on demands for grants for the first supplementary was adopted and some papers were laid in the house after which the Speaker adjourned the house for the day.UNI
