Kendrapara, May20: The forest personnel of Mahakalapada forest Range on Sunday rescued 10 feet long female estuarine crocodile from Arada village under Kansar Badadandua Gram panchayat of Mahakalapada forest Range.
The forest personnel also collected 59 crocodile eggs from the nest of the rescued crocodile, ACF-cum-Ranger of Mahakalapada Forest Range Bijay Kumar Parida said. According to the ACF, a 10-feet long estuarine crocodile laid eggs by forming a nest at the bamboo bush of one Susanta Mohapatra, of Arada village
Susanta noticed estuarine crocodile on his bamboo bush and informed to the villagers who nabbed the crocodile with a fishing net and collected 59 crocodile eggs from the nest. The Mahakalapada forest range personnel on being informed about the crocodile rushed to the spot and rescued the crocodile and the eggs .
Later, the forest personnel released the crocodile at the Kharanashi creek and sent the collected 59 eggs to Dangamal crocodile Research and breeding centre to hatch it artificially Mr.Parida said. The Bhitarakanika National Park authority had spotted 101 nests of Estuarine crocodile in Kanika,Gahirmatha,Mahakalapada and Rajnagar wildlife forest Range Divisions under Bhitarkanika National park during the last nesting season.
