Bhubaneswar, Apr 07 : Odisha Pradesh Congress Committee President Niranjan Patnaik today described the discontentment in the party over distribution of party tickets for the 2019 election as natural. Replying to a question after releasing the party manifesto, Mr Patnaik said the Congress is an old and big party and many people are aspiring for party tickets.
It is not possible to give a ticket to every aspiring candidate. So it t is natural for those who did not get tickets to express their discontentment, he said.
The OPCC President said the party has kept its promise to give priority to youths and new faces this time while selecting candidates for the elections.
He said out of 147 candidates fielded by the party for 147 Assembly seats more than 90 are new faces and 70 are youths. He said many candidates were not satisfied as they were not given party tickets for their choiced constituencies. When asked why only a mere ten women candidates were fielded by the party for the 147 Assembly seats, Mr Patnaik said, 'we did not get enough women candidates'.
