With the Supreme Court asking all States to repatriate migrants to their home States in the next 15 days, the Southern Railway has said it has already repatriated 5.49 lakh migrant workers from southern States to their hometowns from May 1 to June 6.
In a press release, it said 11 shramik trains were run from Kerala and another three from Tamil Nadu on Saturday.
As on June 6, as many as 404 Shramik Specials were run from various stations in the south. They included 238 from Tamil Nadu, 143 from Kerala, 20 from Karnataka and one from Puducherry. They were bound for stations in Bihar, Odisha, West Bengal, Uttar Pradesh, Jharkhand and Assam.
