New Delhi, Jun 5 : On the occasion of the World Environment Day, the Prime Minister on Friday called on people to ensure the preservation of the flora and fauna of the earth. In a message to the country on the day, Mr Modi said, 'We reiterate our pledge to preserve our planet’s rich biodiversity. Let us collectively do whatever possible to ensure the flora and fauna with whom we share the earth thrive. May we leave an even better planet for the coming generations.'
This day is celebrated on 5 June every year and is the United Nations' principal vehicle for encouraging awareness and action for the protection of our environment. First held in 1974, it has been a flagship campaign for raising awareness on emerging environmental issues to marine pollution, human overpopulation, and global warming, to sustainable consumption and wildlife crime.
