New Delhi, Jun 3 : Set-up on the initiative of Speaker Om Birla, the Lok Sabha Control Room to fight against Covid-19 pandemic has been coordinating efforts of parliamentarians and legislators for relief and rehabilitation of affected people.
After it came into existence, the control room has received about 1,000 requests during April 27 to May 31. During the same period, as many as 11,000 people have been relocated or helped by the Control Room.
In pursuance of decision of Mr Birla during a Video Conference with Presiding Officers of State Legislatures on April 21, this Control Room was set up by Lok Sabha Secretariat in Parliament House to facilitate quicker interface between MPs, MLAs and the public for emergency assistance in the fight against Covid-19.
Meanwhile, Mr Birla expressed concern over cyclone Nisarga hitting areas of Maharashtra and Gujarat. ''It is a matter of concern that the cyclone Nisarga is hitting the west coast of India. I pray for the well being of the residents of the affected areas of Maharashtra and Gujarat. Central and state governments are involved in relief work, efforts are on to provide all possible help to the affected,'' he said in his tweet.
Continuous rains battered Mumbai and its neighboring suburbs, which remains on alert, as cyclone Nisarga made landfall on the Maharashtra coast on Wednesday. (UNI)
