New Delhi, May 23 :Amid the reports of large numbers displaced from Bengal, Odisha due to cyclone Amphan, a UN report informed that more than 5 million people were internally displaced in India in 2019 because of natural disasters, conflict and violence.
The figure constitutes the highest number of internal displacements in the World followed by the Philippines, Bangladesh and China, the report said. The UN Children's Fund (UNICEF)'s report - titled 'Lost at Home' - said that almost 33 million new displacements were recorded in 2019 almost across the globe. Of these, around 25 million were due to natural disasters and 8.5 million as consequence of conflict and violence. (UNI)
