New Delhi, May 21 : On the occasion of former Prime Minister Rajiv Gandhi’s death anniversary, Congress president Sonia Gandhi, along with party leader Rahul Gandhi, on Thursday, launched the Rajiv Gandhi Kisan Nyay scheme in Chhattisgarh through video conferencing. Addressing the launching event, the Congress president said that the new scheme was a true tribute to the former Prime Minister.
“Implementing such effective schemes at the grassroots level and bringing their benefits to the people and changes their lives will be a true tribute to Rajiv Gandhi”, Ms Gandhi said.
Ms Gandhi also congratulated Chief Minister Bhupesh Baghel, his colleagues and the agricultural labourers, saying through the Rajiv Gandhi Kisan NYAY Yojana, steps have been taken to provide funds to the farmers of Chhattisgarh, encouraging crop production and sending funds directly to their bank accounts. She said that there is a plan to include landless tribal agricultural labourers in the second phase of this scheme. “This is a very unique decision which will make them all self-sufficient” the Congress president said.
Congratulating the Chhattisgarh government, Mr Gandhi said launching the scheme at a time when the poor and farmers were facing hardships due to the COVID-19 outbreak and the lockdown. Mr Baghel said the scheme will benefit 19 lakh farmers and help bring more land under cultivation in the state. “Our aim is to help farmers earn more and bring more area in the state under cultivation, which stands at 20 per cent now", Mr Baghel said. Party national general secretary Motilal Vora has also joined at the launching event through video conference. (UNI)
