New Delhi, May 16: More than 14 lakh stranded people have been transported by Indian Railways back to their home states in the past 15 days. "As on midnight of 15th May, 2020, a total of 1,074 'Shramik Special' trains have been operationalised from various states across the country. More than 14 lakh stranded people have been transported back to their home state in last 15 days," the Ministry of Railways said in a release here. Their numbers had gone up to about two lakh people during the past three days.
In the days to come, it was expected to be scaled up to three lakh passengers a day. These trains are being run by Railways only after concurrence is given both by the state which is sending the passengers and the State which is receiving them. These 1,074 Shramik Special trains have originated from the states of Andhra Pradesh, Delhi, Gujarat, Haryana, Maharashtra, Punjab, Rajasthan, Tamil Nadu, Telangana, Karnataka, Kerala, Goa, Jharkhand, Uttar Pradesh, Madhya Pradesh, and Bihar.(UNI)
