New Delhi, May 16: The COVID-19 positive cases jumped to 85940 in the country on Saturday morning with a sharp spike of 3,970 fresh cases in the past 24 hours, Health Ministry update said. The cases under active medical supervision increased to 53035, while the casualties across the nation have surged to 2752 after 103 fresh deaths were reported in the past 24 hours.
On the positive side, 2234 patients of the virus have recovered during the past 24 hours, taking the total number of cured cases across the nation to 30153. The cases have again spiked in Maharashtra with 1576 new additions in past one day, taking the tally to 29100, with fatalities mounting to 1068 after addition of 49 fresh deaths since Friday.
Tamil Nadu with 434 fresh cases remains at the second spot, with the tally now reaching 10108 9,674 and casualties rising to 71 with seven fresh deaths. In Gujarat, not very far from Tamil Nadu, the cases have come close to the 10 thousand mark as the tally on Saturday reached 9931 with 340 new cases reported in the state in the past 24 hours, with 20 more deaths. Now, the death toll stands at 606. The national capital is now housing 8895 cases with 425 fresh cases, while death toll has reached 123 after addition of eight casualties. (UNI)
