Pune, May 11 : Conditions are likely to become favourable for advance of Southwest Monsoon into some expanse of southeast Bay of Bengal, south Andaman Sea and Nicobar Islands around May 16, forecast the India Meteorological Department today.

It further said that thunderstorms, accompanied with lightning and gusty winds (with speed reaching up to 40-50 km per hour), is likely to occur at isolated places over Gangetic West Bengal during next 24 hours. Thunderstorms, accompanied with lightning, hail and gusty winds (speed reaching 30-40 kmph), are likely at isolated regions over Himachal Pradesh, Uttarakhand, east Rajasthan, Assam and Meghalaya during the period.

Thunderstorms, accompanied with lightning, are likely at isolated tracts over Jammu & Kashmir, Ladakh, Gilgit-Baltistan, Muzaffarabad, Madhya Pradesh, Chhattisgarh, Vidarbha, Bihar, coastal Andhra Pradesh and Yanam during the period. Heavy rainfall is very likely at isolated divisions in Andaman & Nicobar Islands, coastal Karnataka, Lakshadweep, Tamil Nadu, Puducherry, Karaikal, Kerala and Mahe during the period. As squally weather is very likely over swathes of Lakshadweep-Maldives, fishermen should refrain from venturing into these areas during the period. Dust Storm is very likely at isolated stretches over Rajasthan during the period.

Thunderstorm had occurred at isolated segments over Jammu & Kashmir, Ladakh, GilgitBaltistan, Muzaffarabad, Himachal Pradesh, Punjab, Haryana, Chandigarh, Delhi, Uttrakhand, Uttar Pradesh, east Rajasthan, Madhya Pradesh, Jharkhand, Bihar, Odisha, West Bengal, Sikkim, Vidarbha, Madhya Maharashtra, Marathwada, Telangana, north Interior Karnataka, Tamil Nadu, Kerala, Mahe and Meghalaya during past 24 hours. Rain or thunderstorms had occurred at most zones in Gangetic West Bengal as well at many spots in Jharkhand, Bihar, Uttar Pradesh, Uttarakhand, Vidarbha and coastal & north Interior Karnataka during the period. They had also occurred at a few locations in Sub-Himalayan West Bengal, Sikkim, Haryana, Himachal Pradesh, Madhya Pradesh, Madhya Maharashtra, Marathwada, south Interior Karnataka, Kerala, Andaman & Nicobar Islands and Lakshadweep during the period. Isolated spots in Assam, Meghalaya, Odisha, Punjab, Jammu & Kashmir, Rajasthan and Chhattisgarh.
