New Delhi, May 8: The Central Industrial Security Force (CISF) averted a major boiler blast at the government owned Neyveli Lignite Corporation (NLC) factory at Neyveli in Tamil Nadu, an official statement said here on Friday. According to CISF, a massive fire broke out in the boiler and bunker area of Unit-6 of the NLC due to an explosion on Thursday.
The on-duty crew of CISF Fire Service Wing deployed at Thermal Power Station-2 of NLC Neyveli along with fire tender rushed to the spot immediately to contain and extinguish the fire. Messages were also communicated to senior officers, all six fire stations of CISF Fire wing NLC Neyveli & Fire line for reinforcement. “Multiple levels of boiler and bunker area of Unit-6 were under-fire. The section at 40 meters height of the conveyor belt at the bunker area had also caught fire.
After taking necessary precautions in consultation with the concerned area in-charge of NLCIL, CISF fire wing personnel formed into operational teams headed by Fire Station in-charge and started extinguishing the fire”, the CISF said. In the meantime, the factory’s Fire service also reached the spot to assist CISF Fire Service Wing in fire fighting operation and after rigorous efforts, the fire was controlled by 1900 hrs. Subsequently, the affected areas of boiler and bunker of Unit-6 and 7 were cooled by using water sprays.
Two NLCIL employees and six casual labourers of NLCIL were reportedly injured in the fire incident and were shifted to NLC Hospital. After providing them with first aid at the NLC Hospital, they were referred to KMC Trichy for further treatment. The exact cause of the fire is being inquired by the concerned agencies and NLC Management, the Force said in the statement. (UNI)
