New Delhi, May 3 : Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Sunday paid tribute to the security personnel martyred in the Handwara encounter of Jammu & Kashmir and said that their valour and sacrifice will never be forgotten. Taking to micro-blogging site Twitter, the Prime Minister posted, 'Tributes to our courageous soldiers and security personnel martyred in Handwara.
Their valour and sacrifice will never be forgotten. 'They served the nation with utmost dedication and worked tirelessly to protect our citizens,' he added, while paying condolences to the families and friends of the martyrs. Five security force personnel, including a Colonel and a Major were killed, while two militants were gunned down in an encounter at Handwara in the frontier Kashmir district of Kupwara.
Following specific information about the presence of militants, a joint Cordon and Search Operation (CASO) was launched by the Special Operations Group (SOG) of J&K police, Army and CRPF at Changi Mullah in Handwara on Saturday evening. (UNI)
