Congress salutes martyrs of Kupwara encounter

New Delhi, May 3: The Congress on Sunday expressed deep condolences on the martyrdom of five security personnel, including the Colonel and Major, in an encounter with militants in Jammu and Kashmir and saluted their martyrdom.

"Salute to the supreme sacrifice of the brave martyrs for Mother India. India is proud of you”, AICC communication in-charge, Randeep Singh Surjewala tweeted. Senior party leader Ahmed Patel said, "The martyrdom of five jawans in Handwada is aggravating and I express condolences to the families of the victims. It is our commitment to fight terrorists and defeat terrorism." Officials said on Sunday that two militants were killed in an encounter with security forces in Chanjmulla area of Handwara in Jammu and Kashmir.

Col Ashutosh Sharma, Maj Anuj Sood, Naik Rajesh Lance Naik Dinesh and Jammu Kashmir Police Sub-Inspector Shakeel Qazi were also martyred in the attack. (UNI)
