Not a single case reported in Mahe & Kodagu: Health Ministry

New Delhi, Apr 19: Ministry of Health and Family Welfare on Monday said that the Mahe district in Puducherry and Kodagu in Karnataka have not reported a single case in last 28 days and that indicates that the States Government have been working relentlessly to curb the spread of COVID19 in their respective areas.

Addressing a press conference here, the Joint Secretary and Spokesperson of Union Health Ministry Lav Agrawal said that besides these two districts, there are 54 other districts in 23 States and Union Territories (UTs) which have not reported any single positive case of coronavirus and far more,10 new districts have been added in this list. “Among the 10 new districts include Gaya and Saran in Bihar, Bareli in Uttar Pradesh, Fatehgarh Sahib and Roopnagar in Punjab, Bhiwani, Hisar and Fatehabad in Haryana and Kachhar and Lakhimpur in Assam”, he further said.

Mr Agrawal further said that Centre is continuously trying to contain this pandemic with the cooperation with the State Governments. He also informed that the Centre has constituted a ‘Task Force’ for the Vaccine and drug for COVID19 which is being headed by the Principal Scientific Advisor to the Prime Minister and members are from the Ministry of Aayush, Department of Science and Technology, CSIR, ICMR, DRDO, Drug Controller and Director General of Health Services. The Task Force will monitor the various research and development work being done for research for the vaccine of Corona Virus under the Department of Biotechnology which will also work as nodal agency.

Giving the details of the COVID 19 patients, Mr Agrawal said that the total number of cases has reached 15712, while 1334 new case have been reported in last 24 hours. He also said that a total of 2231 patients have been cured so far at the rate of 14.91 percent. The total number of death so far has reached to 507. (UNI)
